MVA History
Mountain View Academy is a Christian High School sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church serving the Bay Area communities. The move of the Pacific Press Publishing Association from Oakland to Mountain View in 1904 occasioned the arrival of several Seventh-day Adventist families in this area. Anxious to have their children receive a Christian education that they might "grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord," the SDA church established an elementary school in 1906. As the first students progressed in their education, the need for a secondary school became apparent. The Class of 1923 began a tradition that continues today.
The faculty continues to seek excellence while providing a caring educational environment. The line of principals from Harland Johnston in 1922 to Dan Meidinger, current administrator, has helped continue the success of this learning atmosphere throughout the years.
MVA Alumni have a proven track record of success. A large majority of our alumni enter the medical, dental, health services, teaching, engineering, law and business professions. Our alumni continue to reach out in their communities by donating their time, expertise, and money to various public service organizations and groups. It is a blessing that many Alumni have returned to Mountain View Academy as teachers, administrators, and volunteers, contributing to the development of graduates who love the Lord and their neighbor as themselves.
